3 & Out w/ Central’s Brad Dixon

September 13, 2017 0 Comments

One question and three answers. Pretty simple, right?

A winning record was tough to come by at Camp Point Central prior Bill Reed landing on the scene as head football coach in 2008. According to IHSA records, the Panthers finished above .500 four times and qualified for the playoffs just one time since 1968.

Since that first season in 2008, a combined Reed-Brad Dixon team has went 76-24 with aspirations each year increasing to the point state-title thoughts emerge from voices entering and exiting the home field during the season.

So how was Dixon influence by the man who walked the sidelines previous to him? I asked.

Three Coaches That Have Inspired You The Most:

Bill Reed

Brought a winning mentality to Central and showed me how to get kids to believe in themselves. Also taught me to be organized and leave no stone unturned as the head coach. Our football success at Central the past nine years started with his leadership.

Matt Long

His toughness is unmatched by anyone else I’ve ever met and his teams play that exact same way. He gets his players to play harder than any other team in the area consistently, but also loves them unconditionally. His combination of toughness and love make his program special.

Tony Dungy

Made me really step back and re-think why I’m in this coaching profession several years back. Reading his books helped me to realize that football is just the opportunity have to impact my players on a much greater level. Championships are nice, but building championship young men is more important.
