There have been some dark days in the recent history of the basketball programs at Western Illinois University.
Then called the Westerwinds, the women’s team went from 12-6 in The Summit League in 2007-08 to a total of 16 games under .500 the next three seasons.
The men hit a major wall in 2010-11 when finishing 7-23 overall and 2-16 in The Summit.
Now it seems things are changing. Fans are attending games again with news of over 4,000 in attendance at a recent men’s game and more local intrigue on the women’s side.
Wins help. Duh.
Following a big win over North Dakota State last Saturday, the men sit 15-4 overall and 7-1 in the conference. The win at NDSU last Saturday has JD Gravina’s team at 10-8 overall and 3-3.
WIU Athletic Director Dr. Tim Van Alstine joined (Click following link for audio) the show to discuss the resurgence of the hoops programs and if plans are out there for renovations to Western Hall.
